Tackling Micropollutants in Wastewater

Workshop: Tackling Micropollutants in Wastewater
Approaches on Implementation and Innovation in Europe and the Netherlands

Wednesday 3rd November and Thursday 4th November 2021

Amtrium, Entrance L, Colloseum at the Aquatech Expo RAI, Europaplein 24, 1078 GZ Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The Dutch Water Partners are implementing and researching technologies for removal of micropollutants from municipal wastewater. This research is carried out within extensive programs, which are initiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and managed by STOWA and the national Water Authorities. In this two-day event during the international Aquatech the Dutch Approach on reducing the discharge of micropollutants into surface water is presented. Through this program the implementation of full-scale installations to remove micropollutants is fast-tracked and innovations in technologies are subsidized. In this event the Dutch approach will be presented including technological challenges on implementation and innovation of technologies. International collaboration is key in this approach: European programs will also be presented.

Concerning innovative technologies: the results of more than 15 technologies which are tested in the Netherlands on pilot scale and full-scale will be presented. These technologies are promising because of the expected reductions on CO2-footprint, costs or enhance the effluent quality in respect to proven technologies, now built in Europe.

This event consists of six sessions. There will be ample room for discussions of the results with the audience in this interactive event:

Wednesday November 3rd: Tackling micropolllutants in wastewater; policies, implementation and innovation

10.30-12.30 Tackling micropollutants in wastewater: policy meets practice in implementation
13.30-15.00 Tackling removal of micropollutants from wastewater: policy meets practice in innovation
15.00-16.30 Lowering the CO2-footprint of Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) by using non-fossil PAC

Thursday November 4th: Innovation in removal of micropollutants from wastewater

10.30-12.30 Lowering the CO2-footprint of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)
13.30-15.00 Lowering the CO2-footprint and bromate formation through Oxidation
15.00-16.30 Upcycling wastewater

You are welcome to join one or more of these sessions for free (please register). Walk-ins are welcomed as long as there are non-reserved seats available. Admittance to the Sessions is not allowed after start-up. To guarantee your seat at one of the sessions please register.

STOWA (Acronym for Foundation for Applied Water Research) is the knowledge centre of regional water managers in the Netherlands. Its mission is to develop, collect, distribute and implement applied knowledge, which the water managers need in order to adequately carry out the tasks that their work supports. This expertise can cover applied technical, scientific, administrative-legal or social science fields.
