Tesla CEO donates to Flint schools to help with local water issues
Elon Musk may have got himself into hot water using Twitter in recent months but he has now used the social media platform to confirm a pledge to help out Flint Communities.
The Tesla CEO has donated a total of $480,350 through the Musk Foundation to help with the installation of ultraviolet (UV) water filtration units at 12 schools in Flint, Michigan, US.
Set to be installed in January 2019, the equipment follows a promise made on social media by the SpaceX founder earlier in the year that he would “fund fixing water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels” (see below).

In a statement Flint Community Schools said that UV technology will be used to disinfect all lead and bacteria coming from the water pipes to allow students to drink from and fill up water bottles from school fountains.
It was back in 2014 when Flint detected dangerous levels of lead in its drinking water supply after it was switched from Lake Huron and the Detroit River to the Flint River as the main water source for the city.
