Water industry video competition winners announced

Wednesday, 16 June 2021

A new video competition designed to raise awareness for the water sector's biggest challenges has been devised to give companies and research bodies a platform to exhibit their solutions.

Raising awareness on water challenges and innovations

A new video competition has been launched to help showcase the water industry and community developments.

Supported by organisations including the International Water Association (IWA) and British Water, the competition invited entries across seven categories including community, environment, innovation, analytics, operations, diversity and engagement.

There are also two special awards, including one on COVID stories.

“We wanted the competition to be open to everyone in the water industry, not just those with large budgets.”

Run by Water Industry TV, its aim is to build awareness about the challenges facing the world’s water systems ahead of COP26 and to give companies, big and small, a chance to tell their water stories.

It is the hope that this new platform will help propel the water industry into the digital age and show how the research community is driving solutions.

Tom Williams, CEO of consultancy Enebio and founder of the video competition told Aquatech Online: “We wanted the competition to be open to everyone in the water industry, not just those with large budgets.”

He went on to say: "The idea is to showcase the stories and innovations being told in a different way. We were impressed with the level of entries and the videos showing people telling stories really shone through.”

Who entered?

The competition was open to anyone whether you are a professional in the industry, a student, or just a water industry enthusiast.

There were 89 entries in total ranging from big names such as Water Aid, WATR and Xylem & Manchester City, to university institutes, start-ups and even personal submissions including a day in the life of a PhD student.

The competition was free to enter and submissions had to be five minutes or less. Videos will be used to promote water and the challenges the sector faces in the run-up to COP26 in November later this year.
