Dutch duo team up to drive Nereda across Europe

Tuesday, 16 November 2021

Nijhuis Saur Industries and Royal HaskoningDHV have partnered to drive the application of Nereda Technologies in the industrial wastewater treatment market.

Expanding into Europe

Two household names of Dutch water engineering technology are partnering to help drive the update of Nereda Technologies in the industrial wastewater treatment market.

Nijhuis Saur Industries (NSI) and Royal HaskoningDHV announced at the recent Aquatech Amsterdam event that NSI will become a licensed partner to use the technology in the European industrial market.

The announcement video can be seen below, featuring Menno M. Holterman, president and CEO of Nijhuis Saur Industries and Rene Noppeney, global director of water at Royal HaskoningDHV:

“The agreement with Royal HaskoningDHV is an important additional offering to our wide product portfolio to reduce, reuse and recover, and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future,” said Holterman.

Worldwide, 89 Nereda plants have been built, including in locations such as Rio de Janeiro.

“Industrial wastewater treatment is an area we are keen to develop and further increase our presence,” said Rene Noppeney global director of water at Royal HaskoningDHV.

“With Nijhuis Saur Industries we have a formidable partner in this sector. We look forward to working closely together in the European market.”

Aerobic granular biomass

Nereda purifies water using the unique features of aerobic granular biomass. Requiring a quarter of the area of conventional activated sludge installations, Royal HaskoningDHV says it can reduce energy costs up to 50 per cent.

NSI believes that its industrial end-users will benefit from significant reductions in capital and operational costs in comparison to alternative biological water treatment technologies.

Royal Haskoning was one of the multiple stakeholders in the development of the Kaumera Nereda Gum treatment plant in the Netherlands.
