Could we use 3D printing in wastewater treatment?
Various methods are being used to reduce chemicals in the wastewater treatment process, activated carbon being the most commonly used one. However, activated carbon is an expensive and unsustainable option. Fortunately, cheaper alternatives are being developed - a group of Italian researchers have created a hybrid, 3D (three-dimensional) printed material:
“The hybrid material is synthesized from solid wastes and a naturally abundant polymer, and can cut down wastes in air and wastewater with more success than activated carbon.”
